Udon's Observation Notes | Expression and Quiet Character by Teddy Castle

Udon is not a maker or teacher. In this Journal, she represents quiet observation: the small feeling that tells you whether a handmade character has found its own presence.

Look at the eyes: Eye distance, height and direction can make a bear feel shy, bright, gentle or thoughtful.

Leave room for silence: Not every character needs a large smile. A soft expression can feel more lasting.

Match the whole atmosphere: Ears, nose line, body posture, colour and accessories should belong to the same character.

Quiet gaze

A small change in the eyes can change the whole mood.

Soft restraint

Gentle characters often speak through stillness.

Story feeling

Expression is strongest when it matches the bear's story.

A Small Note From Teddy Castle

This page keeps Udon's role as a quiet companion and observer. She is not described as a craft professional, repairer, healer or teddy bear teacher.
